Year 2 Leaders

It’s not often that an 8-year-old gets to be a leader in a school, but that’s how it is for every single Year 2 student at Highfields. The children of Highfields look up to the Year 2 students, as the respected leaders of the school – positioned with responsibility for setting the tone and watching out for those younger than themselves. Seeing the Year 2’s in this role sets high expectations across the school and illustrate our commitment to giving the children power to influence and shape the culture of the school.

As a key part of this leadership responsibility, Year 2 plan and facilitate the school’s assembly each Friday. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to take the lead in front of an audience. Assembly leaders introduce speakers and performers and in doing so develop their self-confidence and skills as public speakers. A couple of times each year there are additional special events and assemblies where Year 2 are responsible for leading the school, most notably the annual ANZAC Day Service.
