Parent & Teacher Learning Conversations

Parent and teacher learning conversations are organised to give educators and parents time together to talk about the strengths, goals and achievements of individual children. They are organised specifically to cater for the different stages of the children’s learning.

Preschool

In the Two-Day Preschool, parent and teacher learning conversations are organised, in the first instance, as a School Visit. These School Visits, conducted in the first week of Term 1, create a strong connection between families and educators right from the start. Since beginning this tradition, we have seen wonderful gains related to the ease in which our preschoolers transition into the school. Two Day parents are invited to a follow-up parent and teacher learning conversation mid way through Term 1 at the school and again in Term 3.

New children joining Highfields in Three-Day or Five-Day Preschool will also have an additional School visit, conducted in the first weeks of Term 1, again to create a strong connection between families and educators right from the start. All Three-Day and Five-Day parents are invited to attend a parent and teacher learning conversation mid way through Term 1 at school and again in Term 3.

The initial School Visits and follow-up parent and teacher learning conversations offer valuable time for sharing information together and setting shared goals with parents, to see every child at Highfields flourish. In Term 4, parents receive a portfolio containing samples of their child’s work, photos and a personalised letter to the child written by their class teacher. The arrival of the portfolio is an exciting day for everyone, as this precious keepsake positions the children to proudly share the story of their learning and life at Preschool with their family.

Transition to School Statements are also provided in Term 4 for Three and Five Day children transitioning to Kindergarten the following year.

Kindergarten to Year 2

Parent and teacher learning conversations for K-2 parents are held in Term 1, shortly after the Icebreaker information evening, and in Term 3. In Term 2 a portfolio sharing stories, significant events and samples of learning across curriculum areas is sent home, along with a mid-year report. At the end of Term 4, the completed portfolio and end of year report is provided. These portfolios act as a wonderful record of your child’s year of learning as well as displaying the progress made.

Additional meetings can be arranged at the request of parent or teacher, at any time the need arises.
