Orientation Sessions

Orientation sessions and play opportunities are offered to new families, as an intentional way to connect in with the Highfields’ Community – well ahead of the First Day of school. We offer these connection points because we recognise that first impressions count and feeling safe and welcome is so important for children as they start at a new Preschool or School. For these reasons, we invest carefully in the connections made prior to children’s first formal day at Highfields.

Two Day Preschool

In October, in the year prior to the commencement of a child in the Two Day Preschool program, parents are invited to an information evening, and children and parents are invited to attend an Orientation Day. The Orientation session provides the opportunity for the family and child to meet the teachers, to become familiar with the environment, learn more about the program and meet other new families to Highfields.

A play group opportunity is also offered to all children and families prior to the commencement of the Two Day program. Parents can elect to join one of two groups operating each week in Term 4, in the year prior to entry. Play group experiences have proven to be popular and valuable for all involved.

Three and Five Day Preschool

In October, in the year prior to the commencement of a child in the Three Day or Five Day Preschool program, parents are invited to an information session, and children and parents are invited to attend an Orientation Day. The Orientation session provides the opportunity for the family and child to meet the teachers, to become familiar with the environment, learn more about the program and meet other new families to Highfields.

Kindergarten

For a child entering Kindergarten, there are orientation sessions in October, in the year prior to entry as well as a parent information evening. Kindergarten is the first year in the Preparatory School.

Year 1 or Year 2

Orientation sessions for students starting at Highfields in Year 1 or Year 2 are encouraged and can be arranged by contacting the School Office.

From Preschool to Year 2, the Class Parents provide an additional connection point for new families. These friendly parent volunteers are quick to welcome new families to the school, and are on hand to answer questions as they arise and set your mind at ease in the early days at Highfields.
