Keeping in Touch

You may be wondering what opportunities are out there for you to stay in touch with your child’s teacher, or how to connect with the wider Highfields’ Community. We want you to feel welcome and enabled to be as involved with our school community as you want to be. Here are some examples of how you can do just that:

Orientation Sessions and Social Connect Points

Orientation sessions are offered to children prior to starting at Highfields. These are organised formally by the school and offered at set dates and times, for our intake of children in Preschool and Kindergarten. If your child is joining the Highfields’ Community in Year 1 or 2 an orientation session can be arranged by contacting the school office in the term prior to your child’s enrolment.

Class Parents provide regular opportunities for school families to meet up outside of school. A play group is organised for children and families to meet prior to entry in our Two Day program and other play dates are arranged for other year levels, often in the school break times. Class parents also organise regular social gatherings for parents and families. Whether it be for a catch up over a coffee after drop off, or for an evening out with the parents in your child’s class, you are always welcome and encouraged to connect with others in the community.

Daily Communication

We offer daily opportunities for families to connect with the teachers and the school. This is achieved in several ways, through informal chats at the beginning and end of each day, notes or emails sent home from the class teachers, and through the School Stream App containing our weekly school newsletter the Highfields Herald.

Parents are welcome to call the school to enquire about their child at any time. Parents may also contact teachers directly via email, regarding administrative and routine matters. If there is a particular issue you would like to discuss with your child’s class teacher, that requires a more formal discussion, please make an appointment, so an appropriate time can be set aside.

In all circumstances our team will endeavour to answer queries or concerns in a manner that produces positive outcomes for both parents and children. If parents do have any queries or concerns regarding their child or the class teaching/learning program, they are encouraged to discuss them with their child’s teacher in the first instance.

Highfields School has a specific policy and procedure for parents who wish to raise a concern or make a specific complaint or allegation in relation to the school. Any such concerns are taken very seriously and followed up professionally and promptly by the School Principal and the Board of Governors.

Highfields Herald

The Highfields Herald is a weekly newsletter distributed to every family via the School Stream App. It includes a calendar of important term dates and activities, informs parents about school events and matters of interest and contains work samples from classrooms displaying children’s skills and progress across the curriculum. Copies of the most recent Highfields Heralds can be accessed via the School Stream App available to all current families.

In the interests of privacy and safety, access to the School Stream App is restricted to current members of our community.
