Home Learning
Our approach to Home Learning is intentionally flexible. We recognise that time with family is precious and that families differ in how they prefer to use that time each day. We have a holistic approach to home learning that is designed with the specific age group of the children in mind.
Of most importance is the time you can set aside each week to read with your child. Research has shown a clear correlation with children who read at home and children who become confident and able readers. This only needs to be 5-10 minutes – but it is a small amount of time that makes a big difference!
Beyond reading, our Home Learning represents possibilities and suggestions for families, rather than requirements.
Kindergarten and Year 1 use a Home Learning Grid which outlines possible activities the children may like to do as a part of their “home time”. The activities suggested as possibilities intentionally acknowledge the wide range of after school activities children may be involved in outside of school and focus on life skills, as well as academic tasks.
In Year 2, children have a Home Learning Workbook and each week tasks are set, individually targeted for the children’s specific learning needs. Individualised spelling lists and maths practice are set to reinforce learning from the previous week, or act as a warm up for work in the week ahead.
