Healthy Eating
Healthy eating and regular intake of water are both great predictors of children’s capacity to throw themselves into all that’s on offer at Preschool. We consistently find that full tummies and empty water bottles equals happy children who are ready to learn and play. Eating times are a social part of our Preschool days as children are encouraged to sit with their friends and enjoy time to be still and chat together. This routine of being seated together through our eating times also ensures children finish their food before returning to play.
As part of our program, we teach children about good nutrition and provide regular reminders to the children to grab a drink and refuel with a snack. Families can assist our efforts by ensuring healthy foods are packed for morning tea and lunch daily. A water bottle should also be provided.
We aim to minimise the exposure of children at risk of an allergic reaction to known allergens within the school environment. We do have some children allergic to nuts and egg. For this reason we ask that no food products containing nuts be brought to school. These include peanut butter, Nutella, some muesli bars and loose nuts. We also ask that following items containing egg not be brought to school – egg sandwiches, boiled eggs, mayonnaise, meringue, quiche and frittata. Thank you for your support in this matter.
A lunch order service through Flexischools is available for children and families on Fridays. This service is very popular in the Highfields community.
