In the pursuit of supporting children to be happy, healthy and active contributors, educators promote children’s learning and wellbeing in the Preschool by:
- providing a gentle transition for children from the home into a group setting at school. Our priority is to ensure that each child feels safe, secure and supported;
- acknowledging the child’s right to play and implementing play based learning experiences;
- demonstrating flexibility in the day and providing long periods of uninterrupted play, both indoor and outdoor;
- being deliberate, purposeful and thoughtful in decisions and actions for children;
- developing a curriculum which integrates learning areas to support all aspects of a child’s development;
- listening to children and implementing responsive programs that are flexible, and which build on children’s strengths, needs and interests;
- providing rich and meaningful learning experiences that cater for different learning styles and areas of intelligence;
- co-creating and collaborating with the child. Our role is to facilitate each child’s learning and actively engage in the learning alongside the child.
- using the Reggio concept of ‘The 100 Languages’ of learning to promote an extensive range of experiences and styles of engagement across all areas of the curriculum;
- developing authentic projects and investigations, including real-life problem-solving among peers, with numerous opportunities to encourage creative thinking and knowledge building;
- seeking to bring nature into the classroom and to use the outdoors as a respected learning place;
- valuing reflective practice as educators co-learn with children and families;
- representing the children’s cultural ways of knowing, seeing and living into the learning program, and
- creating a learning environment that is dynamic and engaging; where children are free to make choices and work alongside others.
